Canadian Employers need a person who can demonstrate:

  • Initiative, energy and persistence to get the job done.

Responsibility

  • The ability to set goals and priorities in work and personal life

Adaptability

  • A positive attitude toward change
  • Recognition of and respect for people's diversity and individual differences
  • The ability to identify and suggest new ideas to get the job done - creativity

Continuous Learning

  • Assess personal strengths and areas for development

TEAMWORK SKILLS

  • Plan design or carry out a project or task from start to finish with well defined objectives and outcomes
  • Develop a plan, seek feedback, test revise and implement
  • Select and use appropriate tools and technology for a task or project

FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS

Canadian employers need a person who can:

Communicate

  • Understand and speak the languages in which business is conducted
  • Listen to, understand and learn
  • Read, comprehend and use written materials, including graphs, charts and displays
  • Write effectively in the languages in which business is conducted.
  • Share information using a range of information and communication technologies

Think and Solve Problems

  • Think critically and act logically to evaluate situations, solve problems and make decisions
  • Understand and solve problems involving mathematics and use the results
  • Use technology, instruments, tools and information systems effectively
  • Seek different points of view and evaluate them based on facts
  • Identify the root cause of a problem
  • Be creative an innovative in exploring possible solutions
  • Evaluate, implement and act on opportunities for improvement

Manage Information

  • locate, gather and organize information using appropriate technology and information systems
  • Access and apply specialized knowledge from various fields (eg. skilled trades, technology, physical sciences, arts and social sciences)

Use Numbers

  • Decide what needs to be measured and calculated
  • Observe and record data using appropriate methods, tools and technology
  • Make estimates and verify calculations
